But the match was a slight anti-climax, as the hosts flexed their muscle. India was on the brink of defeat and relinquishing their dreams of repeating as champions. Umesh Yadav was the last batsman to come to the crease with India in a forlorn situation. Australia’s deadly bowler Mitchell Starc hits Yadav with a nasty short delivery. It hits Yadav’s chin through the grill of his helmet, making blood gush into his gloves. The Aussies looked concerned but eventually in that same over they claimed the last wicket to qualify for their seventh world cup final. India’s dream run was finally over.
